A National Magazine of Arts Portrait Journalism

Throughout the year, the stories of Canadian artists are published online. At year's end, the strongest of those portraits are gathered into a print edition — deepened, extended, printed on art paper. The artists you have not yet read about — and the lives behind their work.

The Project

A magazine of listening.

Canada has stories to tell, and CANARTA is here to listen. Throughout the year, the portraits of Canadian artists are published online. At year's end, the strongest of those stories are deepened and gathered into a print edition, printed on art paper. We do not review art — we sit with artists, and we write down what they say.

Each portrait is built in three parts: The Person, The Work, The Process. A life, a piece of art, an atelier. We are looking for artists whose work has not yet been seen the way it deserves to be — across every form, in every province.

You deserve a story and a stage.

— CANARTA's promise, to every artist

Thank you. We will write to you when subscriptions open.

For Artists

Register for the artist portal.

What CANARTA gives an artist is a story — a short, written portrait of you and your work. Not a profile you fill in yourself, but a piece written about you, published on canarta.net and kept as a page that stays. That online page is the heart of it: where your work is held, and where people find it, all year long.

The portal is open to every artist living in Canada. Our editorial team chooses which portraits to write, and writes them as they are ready. No submission fee, nothing to buy — registering puts your work in the network.

Photos

A profile photo and a shot of your work — optional, but they bring your portrait to life.

Tell us about yourself and your work — answer what speaks to you. The more you share, the better your story.
